THE VALUE OF TRIAL - Michelle McKinney Hammond
The second son [Joseph] named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.” - GENESIS 41:52
Talk about an aha moment! This is when life finally makes sense. When God gets what He’s been working toward in us all along: fruit. Plain and simple. Suffering should produce fruit—sweet, rich, and nurturing. Isn’t it encouraging to know that the trying of our faith works patience in us? And when we are patient, God can do His work without interruption. And we gain valuable experience that creates sound character in us and makes us more mature in Christ.
People who have suffered major crises have grown much more than those who have been through only minor problems. There is a graciousness about them that can’t be imitated. We either have it or we don’t. Joseph recognized that it was the hand of God that made him what he became. And he was able to declare the trials were worth it because of what came out of it. We too will be continually shaped as God prepares us for what He wants to accomplish through and for us.
In the meantime, let’s stick close to the fire and ask God to refine us.
What do you think God is trying to work into your life? What fruit do you think He wants to grow in you?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
“Dear heavenly Father, continue to do all that needs to be done for me to be fruitful for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
