A PLACE OF REST - Michelle McKinney Hammond

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. - GENESIS 2:21
For so many years I struggled to find a place of rest in my spirit when it came to marriage. Like sleeping on a lumpy mattress, I could never find the right spot or position to get comfortable. There were respites when I was fine with being single, but I always got restless again. I was irritatedthat this issue wasn’t settled…and was so unsettling. And then it happened. I can’t tell you how or when… I just finally noticed I was at peace. I no longer wrestled with the big “when will I find a mate and get married” question.
The Bible doesn’t say whether Adam ever asked God when he would have someone like the animals seemed to have. What it does say is that the Lord put Adam to sleep. Although this refers to physical rest, it works spiritually too. Resting in God by trusting Him is ultimate surrender. This is when He does the most work to prepare us for the fruitful lives He’s planned for us. We can stop trying to make things work. God will bring about what He desires.
In what ways do you need to rest more in God, allowing Him to prepare you for what is to come? What stands in the way of resting in Him?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
Heavenly Father, help me find peace in You. I choose to stop striving to make things happen and surrender to Your will and timing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
