THE TROUBLE WITH TRUST - Michelle McKinney Hammond

April 27, 2016
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. - PROVERBS 3:5
Sometimes it’s hard to separate our hearts from our minds, and yet we must. We tend to lean on our intellectual perceptions, which are limited to what we can interpret. But when we truly love the Lord, we trust Him and His intentions toward us. How many times does He have to say to us, “I know the plans I have for you…Plans to prosper you…plans to give you hope and a future” before we get it? (See Jeremiah 29:11.)
The trouble is that even though He knows, we doubt. And so we fret. We haven’t gotten to the place where we entirely trust His agenda for our lives. We can’t conceive that His perfect will can make us happy and fulfilled. Sad but true, isn’t it? We’re suspicious of God. We fear He won’t give us the desires of our hearts. We don’t trust that He will provide everything we need.
Oh, the garden path the enemy can lead our minds down when we falter in trusting God! Our limited capacity can never imagine all that God has planned for us, but we can rest and trust in the fact that He is looking out for us and wants what’s best for us. We can remember all His promises and how He’s kept every one. He is trustworthy and loves us. And that’s all we really need to remember.
What makes your trust in God waver? What do you need to understand to be more consistent in your faith?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
“Dear heavenly Father, I struggle between the visible and the invisible. Help my unbelief. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
