THE POWER OF SURRENDER - Michelle McKinney Hammond
[Joseph said,] “And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt…” The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials. So Pharaoh asked them, ”Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?” - GENESIS 41:33,37
There have been times in my life when I’ve met a man, and, even though there was an inkling in the back of my mind that he wasn’t “the one,” I’ve forged ahead anyway, happy to finally be getting some male attention. Later I would say to God, when He revealed that my desperation had gotten me into a predicament, “What can You expect? If You put a bone in front of a hungry dog, it’s going to go for it!” Now, many years later and much wiser, I’m more reticent and discerning when men approach—no matter how fabulous they appear. I can wait for God’s wisdom and signal because I’m finally totally surrendered to God in this area.
I believe Joseph had finally reached that point too. He was so surrendered by the time he stood in front of Pharaoh that he didn’t even think of offering his services for a job he knew he was qualified for. This is where God wants all of us. This is when He can trust us to go anywhere. This is when we’re ready to receive our hearts’ desires. People will also recognize our readiness, and we’ll attract the very thing we were chasing.
Has desperation for what you want been repelling the very thing you hope for? What steps can you take to trust God in the situation?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
“Dear heavenly Father, help me put my desires to rest so I will be free to receive new ones from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
