Our Lives Matter Read more - Bishop T.D Jakes

July 15, 2016
The Black Lives Matter Organization was formed in 2012 after the murder of 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. According to the Black Lives Matter organization, their mission is to take action in demolishing anti-Black racism. Since then, many more reports of Black people being murdered have gone viral and sparked outrage and protests under “Black Lives Matter” banner.

Recently, the murders of both Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were recorded and shared around the world.  In response, Americans have taken to the streets to express their rage and exhaustion.

Lately, the argument has been between those who strongly tout “Black Lives Matter” as a movement and those who counter with the slogan  “All Lives Matter.” This conflict has caused friction across our country. However, two protest groups in Dallas, Texas were able to look past that.

While a group of people gathered for a Black Lives Matter protest, just across the street was a counter-protest- stating that all lives matter.

Representatives from both groups met up and, in that moment,  joined forces. Together, they prayed over the city of Dallas and declared that they must come together and “Break down their walls.” Even a police officer that was keeping the two groups apart joined them in prayer.

Dallas is taking the first steps in showing that if all lives matter, we must stand together to overcome.
