Adam lay with his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. - GENESIS 4:1
Today’s verse is one of the most profound to me. Adam lay with his wife. Sexual intimacy occurred. We know nothing of Adam and Eve’s relationship in Eden past the initial discovery, celebration, naming, and subsequent fall of them both. But now they’re out in the world, and the first thing mentioned is their coming together in this miraculous way. Their bond is solidified and reestablished by this very personal act that results in Cain being conceived. Cain is born, a child of the flesh who walks in the flesh throughout his life.
Our first attempts will always be born of the flesh. It is only when we seek to know and please God that we bear the fruit of the Spirit and carry the attributes of Christ to the world.
God already knows us. We are the ones who must seek to know Him beyond face value. In knowing Him and worshiping Him, His seed is planted in our spirits, and we become pregnant with His kingdom’s purpose. The word “worship” suggests a place of intimacy with the Lover of our souls, a place where we are filled with Him and all that He is to the point of unspeakable joy. This is true fulfillment. And in Him we find the love and peace we’ve been looking for.

There is a place of exchange in our relationships that bears fruit. This should be the goal of every interaction. To press past the surface conversations we have and plant God’s seeds of love that offer life to those we encounter.
How is your love life with God? What do you know about Him?
PRAY THIS PRAYER FOR ME:
“Dear heavenly Father, I want to know You the way You know me—deeply and intimately. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
