They looked toward the desert, and there was the glory of the LORD appearing in the cloud.
EXODUS 16:10
Sad to say, but most of us don’t seek God until we are in hard places. In arid places devoid of signs of life or the things we’ve been longing for. God waits for us in those deserts.
Our natural tendency is to feel deserted by God, to stop communicating with Him, and to look for sustenance in other areas. He patiently waits until our souls are parched with unfulfillment and longing and we cry out to Him. Then He leads us to a place of refreshing water. This is where His glory shines, and we gain glimpses of His heart we wouldn’t get to see elsewhere.
In the desert places of our lives we need to keep moving forward by depending on God to help us. When our spirits are dry and our hearts are empty, we can look to Him. Redemption is on the way! However we must seek Him. Preferably we learn to do this early in our wanderings, but even if it’s late we can always turn to Him. When we seek Him, we will find Him. And He will come, bringing all we need.

What do the desert times in your life look like? How can you remember to call on God in these times?
