Beauty Begins: Four Qualities that Make You Irresistibly Attractive - Kerry Shook and Jordan Alpha

April 20, 2016
Kindness makes a man attractive.” Proverbs 19:22 (TLB)
What is it that makes a person attractive?  Billions of dollars are spent trying to improve our appearance so that others will find us attractive.  The Bible says, Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)  So, if we really want to improve our appearance, we need to see what God looks for in a man or woman that makes them irresistibly attractive.  Here are four biblically proven qualities that will improve anyone’s appearance:
  • Attention
Song of Solomon is a love story of intimate love between a husband and his wife with numerous expressions of beauty.  In Song of Solomon 4:9 the husband says, “You have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes….”  How do you think that made her feel?  How does it make you feel when someone gives you their undivided attention?  It raises your value and demonstrates your worth to them!  We’re all attracted to those who offer us their attention!  If you want to improve your appearance without spending a dime on cosmetics, be attentive to those around you.  Put the cell phone down and focus on the one in front of you.  You’ll be amazed at how irresistibly attractive you will become!
  • Acceptance
Many Christ followers have confused acceptance with approval and failed at both.  It may well be why so many who do not follow Christ find those who do to be unattractive.  In Romans 15:7 the Bible says, “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”  What an amazing passage!  God qualifies how we are to accept one another – just as Christ accepted us!  How much did you have to change before Christ accepted you?  He accepted you just the way you are!  He loves you just the way you are!  You didn’t have to prove anything for God to love you!  In fact, in Romans 5:8 the Bible tells us, But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” God didn’t wait until we cleaned up our act to love us!  How do you know if you truly love someone?  You stop trying to change them and accept them just as they are!  That kind of acceptance is truly beautiful!  It will make you irresistibly attractive!  How do you do that?  By understanding the difference between acceptance and approval.  While God disapproves of sin, He accepts the sinner and offers us what we need most – love and forgiveness – through grace!  It’s that grace that gives us the power and desire to change from the inside out!
  • Assurance
Read this passage out loud and count how many times Solomon told his wife she was beautiful in Song of Solomon 4:1, 7 (NLT)
“You are beautiful, my darling, beautiful beyond words …
You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way …
Can you think of a woman alive who wouldn’t find that irresistibly attractive in her man? If a woman’s greatest struggle is seeing her true beauty or a man’s greatest fear is insignificance, then the question we should be asking is: how can we help one another see the truth of who we really are?  One of the most important ways we can do that is by reassuring each other of the truth.  Four times in this passage alone Solomon tells his wife she is beautiful!  He’s reassuring her of the truth that she is beautiful regardless of how she may feel about herself.   When we offer that kind of assurance to one another, it makes us irresistibly attractive.
  • Appreciation
Who doesn’t value genuine, no-strings-attached, heart-felt appreciation?  When you appreciate someone, you are raising their value!  To depreciate is to reduce their value.  If you want to be irresistibly attractive to others start with appreciating all that they are and do for you!   Scripture says, “So encourage each other to build each other up….” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (LB) How are you showing appreciation to those around you at home, at work or wherever you may be?  Start with encouraging them and consider acts of kindness that would show them how much you appreciate them.  You’ll be amazed how attractive that will make you!
None of these qualities can be found in the cosmetic department.  They are not qualities you can put on.  It would be obvious and disingenuous. They are all qualities that come from within by virtue of Christ. They are your sacred reflection!
