Turning Trash Into Treasure - Bishop T.D Jakes
What a repair shop can teach us about second chances.
When something stops working, do you fix it or throw it away?
Unless you have the training, you probably just toss the broken item out and buy a new one.
You aren’t alone.
We have a habit of discarding the things that no longer work for us, creating an incredible amount of waste and spending large amounts of money on replacements.
To counter this behavior, a movement has been introduced in many communities and is dedicated to turning our trash into treasures.
They call themselves Repair Cafés and they are places where people can go to get items repaired by both professionals and amateur tinkerers.
Perhaps one reason Repair Cafés are rising in popularity is because they highlight the importance of appreciating what we have and taking care of it.
The repair shops foster a strong sense of community.
People who would usually be on the sidelines, such as retirees and those who can’t work due to illnesses, are also finding a sense of purpose when they volunteer.
Repair Cafés are currently found in many countries and are easy to start up in interested neighborhoods. All that’s needed is a few eager volunteers and the knowledge that anything broken can one day be fixed.
