The LORD then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.” - GENESIS 7:1
The greatest reward for righteousness is that we’re covered and protected by God. He remains faithful to those who are faithful to Him. But sometimes it’s easy for us to fall into the trap of believing that God owes us something in return for our obedience. We look at our works of righteousness as bargaining tools to get what we want from God. Many people see life this way and struggle with being angry at God when their demands are met with silence.
God owes us nothing. He has already given us everything, including a way of escape from sin and corruption through His Son, Jesus Christ. Our obedience is our thank-you to Him for restoring our ability to have an intimate relationship with Him. If we lose sight of this fact or it escapes our minds, it’s easy to drop into bartering with God. “God, I’ll be celibate if you’ll send a mate quickly.” “I’ll increase my tithe if You get me a better job.” “I’ll be obedient to You for a sign that lets me know You see what I do.”

On days when discouragement hits and you’re tempted by what others have or the life they lead, talk to God about it! He understands. Ask Him to open your eyes to the blessings He’s given you. And then why not make an actual list of how God has worked in your life?
The day will come when we will look back and see what we’ve been saved from as we rest in the shadow of God’s wings.

Have you tried to bargain with God? What was the result? How do you keep from doing that now?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
“Heavenly Father, I surrender my all to You. I choose to rest in the safety You provide when I obey You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
