Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. - GENESIS 2:19
God allowed Adam to name all the animals. Can you imagine how much fun he had coming up with creative new words? And God honored Adam’s choices by not changing the names. The animals’ identities were established based on Adam’s words.
Many times in life we name situations and people something other than what God would. For instance, is your “Mr. Right” really “Mr. Right”? Or are you seeing him only as you’d like to? Is the choice to stretch the truth—a “white” lie—to avoid trouble really the right one and in line with God’s principles? What would God call that situation or choice you’ve selected?
Until we’re ready to see things as God sees them, we’ll make choices depending on our moods and attitudes and human reasoning, which often sets us up for pain and regret. Your prince might really be a frog. That great opportunity might be a distraction from a true blessing. A little lie might snowball into a disastrous situation. Look closely and pray about what you’re seeing and choosing. Ask God to help you see with His eyes and heart.
What are you calling your present circumstances? What would God call them?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
Dear heavenly Father, grant me the discernment and wisdom I need to make the right choices. Help me walk in agreement with You, calling things as You see them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
