THE LIGHT OF TRUTH - Michelle McKinney Hammond

God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
GENESIS 1:4
“The truth is the light, baby,” she told me. I wasn’t happy. What she said smarted. Never mind that it was true. I wanted what I wanted—now. What I desired wasn’t good for me, but so what. And here was my dear friend, loving me enough to tell the truth. Ugh! But she was right. The truth is light, and it was illuminating a dark, slippery path that would have brought devastation to my heart. God’s light separates the darkness of deception from our lives and magnifies what is true and right—whether we like it or not.
A friend of mine kept her man under wraps until after she married him because she didn’t want anyone’s input (a strong sign something wasn’t right). The marriage was a disaster. Listening to wise counsel may have saved her from much heartache.
God’s Word says we prefer darkness over light because our deeds are evil (John 3:19). Sometimes it’s not that deep. What we yearn for may just not be good for us. When we’ve been wanting something for a long time, the first chance we have to get it can look so good. In those moments, we need to depend on God and the people He puts in our lives to help us separate fact from fiction. We may not like it…but it will be good for us.
Have you been harboring something in the dark? What do you fear if you expose it? What will you do about it now?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
Father, help me walk in transparency and accountability with You and others, knowing that You will lead me on a straight path to life and joy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
