THE LIBERATING POWER OF THE TRUTH
Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” - GENESIS 3:13
I once worked in the field of advertising, writing commercials for many well-known clients. And yes, I was good at it. I was good at crafting temptation. I could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo sitting in an igloo. However, what I learned about the art of seduction was that I had to locate what the person wanted. People are only tempted when they are drawn by their lusts.
Temptation never works for the sake of temptation alone. It only works when leveled at a person’s desire. A nonsmoker will seldom be tempted by a cigarette ad because they have no desire for a smoke in the first place.
This is why God can’t be tempted. God is complete, whole, and entirely satisfied. Everything He wants is already contained within Him. When we allow Him to take up residence in our hearts, we are filled with Him, and He supplies all our needs…when we choose to embrace that realization.
The Lord held Eve accountable for her sin even though the serpent was the perpetrator. The serpent only tapped into Eve’s rebellious nature and her desire to be like God. A famous comedian used to say, “The devil made me do it.” The joke was that we all knew he wanted to do it to begin with. At the end of the day, when we stand before God, we can’t blame anyone else for our actions. We must own what we’ve done and be willing to come clean. We must repent, let God restore us, and move on. An “admission of guilt” is not the same as confession. Only when we see what we’ve done through the eyes of God and call it as it truly is will His grace finish its perfect work in us.
Have you done something that You haven’t confessed to God? Why not do it now?”
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
“Dear heavenly Father, thank You for not allowing me to hide behind others. Thank You for the gift of truth and Your love and mercy that will always free me from sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
