THE CONTAGIOUS NATURE OF SIN - Michelle McKinney Hammond

She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. - GENESIS 3:6
Sin is contagious. Our thoughts, attitudes, and actions affect people far beyond our personal lives. Think about how one person’s actions can affect the way we travel. One bomb in one shoe means most travelers in the world now must remove their shoes for inspection before boarding commercial planes.
What we consume in thought, word, and deed may eat at us and spread to others. Eve’s little snack in the garden didn’t just affect her. She gave some of the fruit she tasted to her husband, and the entire world paid the price. From mankind to nature, everything suffered because of one sin. Can anything taste good enough to be worth those ramifications? I think not!
Sin boils down to our choices, which must always be considered in the present light and in light of the future. We need to have “kingdom” vision to make the right choices. So our choices must be examined by whether they get us closer to where God wants us to be. Until we master this, we will forever be taking one step forward and two steps back in life, in our relationships, and in our accomplishments.
If we truly want victory in our lives, we must see our choices for what they are and how they affect us and others. Whether it be family members, friends, community, or beyond, our actions affect a lot of people. We influence more than we know. So what can we do to effect change for good? Be careful with our choices.
What is the best choice you’ve ever made? The worst? What were the fruits of your choices? What did you learn? What, if anything, would you do differently next time?”
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
“Dear heavenly Father, help me make the best choices—the ones that align with Your will. I want to be blessed…but also to be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
