OUR HEAVENLY ASSIGNMENT - Michelle McKinney Hammond
God created us for specific tasks He had in mind before we existed. As we yield to His hand, He places us where He wants us to be so we can do His will. We’ve been wired for our God-designed assignments. His purposes permeate us and drive our decisions. As humans we get some pleasure and find significance in life on earth because God created us that way. But greater still is the joy and meaning we experience when we seek God and do what He created us to do for Him. Even work-related goals give us satisfaction when we’re led by God. I often think of the many people who go to a job they hate. How sad. And many times it’s because they’ve chosen practicality, what “makes sense” or what they’ve happened upon, over pursuing the talents and gifts God has given them.
“God told man and woman to care for His creation, including the garden of Eden. Adam experienced pleasure as he went about his work. I imagine creation cooperating—the earth watered itself and gave forth fruit in abundance. Animals were peaceful, and Adam (and Eve) exercised dominion easily and gently. But when we’re not following God’s plan, work can become labor…and life gets bleak.
Are you where God wants you? Are you experiencing the pleasure that comes from being in the center of His will?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
Father, thank You for loving me. Reveal what You want me to do and then help me do it. Let all I do be for Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
