GOD’S DESIGN - Michelle McKinney Hammond
The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” - Genesis 2:18
Was Adam really alone? No. He was enjoying working in the garden of Eden, living in harmony with creation. And God visited Adam every evening! So why did God say Adam was alone? I believe when we get busy about our Father’s business, God gets busy about our personal business. God decided to give Adam someone “of his own kind” to love, to cherish, and to help.
Mates weren’t created to be our fulfillment, our affirmation, or our validation. These are God’s purview. He created a place in our hearts for Him alone. When we get busy doing what we were created to do, we’ll feel satisfied and full of purpose. And God’s will and assignments for us always include service of some kind.
God’s design for divine partnership is two people coming together to become even more effective in carrying out His kingdom agenda, to give each other company, and to be fruitful. As couples accomplish their purposes, they also find pleasure in one another. This is a wonderful benefit God provides. We have something to look forward to as God prepares us for our mates…and our mates for us. And if God’s design for some of us is to remain single, He will provide pleasure and fulfillment in different ways.
What is your assignment now?
PRAY THIS PRAYER WITH ME:
Dear heavenly Father, I release my wants into Your hands and wait on what You know I need in my life right now. In the meantime, help me find pleasure in serving You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
