Our Need To Blame - Bishop T.D Jakes

January 16, 2017

Sometimes it's your fault.

When a misfortune strikes us, often our first instinct is to ask “Why did this happen?”. Quickly, we jump to wondering “Who is responsible?”.

Why do we go looking for someone to hold responsible for our difficulties instead of focusing on fixing them? Why do we place finding solutions as less important than finding fault?

It is because we have a deep seated need to blame.

So, what is to “blame” for our need to blame? In a study published by the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, researchers have found that pointing the finger of blame is actually a social condition.

During the study, participants who read stories blaming others for a major issue were more likely to participate in spreading blame when surveyed than those who had read an impartial story or one where blame was shared.

We pick up on social queues and adopt behaviors that we think are acceptable making the blame game justifiable.

The study further went on to research how participants held themselves responsible. When reading articles that pointed the finger at a specific individual, they were quicker to blame others for their own troubles.

However, when reading about instances where responsibility was shared or owned up to, participants were more willing to accept their role in creating their own issues.

When others take responsibility for their faults, we feel more comfortable owning up to our own failures.

Though the need to blame is a normal social condition, it does not make it an inescapable one. There are ways we can look at the nature of finding fault and destroy its hold on us.

We can start by no longer participating in the blame game.

As the study found, we feel more comfortable admitting to our own culpability if we feel others have also admitted to their own. These results hold the key for dismantling our need to blame.

We can remove the shame associated with self blame by regularly accepting personal responsibility for our actions. This will encourage others to do the same until passing the buck is no longer the norm.

If we are able to minimize the social acceptability of pointing the finger at others, we can proudly take the blame for ending our need to blame.

Rejoice in Him - Billy Graham

January 16, 2017

I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
—Habakkuk 3:18

Christians are supposed to be happy persons! Our generation has become well versed in Christian terminology, but is remiss in the actual practice of Christ’s principles and teachings. Hence, our greatest need today is not more Christianity but more true Christians. The world can argue against Christianity as an institution, but there is no convincing argument against a person who, through the Spirit of God, has been made Christlike. Such a person is a living rebuke to the selfishness, rationalism, and materialism of the day. Jesus said to the woman at Jacob’s well, “Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.” This sin-sick, disillusioned woman was the symbol of the whole race. Her longings were our longings! Her heart-cry was our heart-cry! Her disillusionment was our disillusionment! Her sin was our sin! But her Savior can be our Savior! Her forgiveness can be our forgiveness! Her joy can be our joy!

Prayer for the day

Jesus Can Set Them Free - Kenneth Copeland

January 16, 2017

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Matthew 10:7-8

There are those who've said that some of the diseases that are on the rampage right now, diseases such as AIDS, are God's way of punishing immoral people today. There is absolutely no scriptural basis for that!

God does not bring disease on the human race. In fact, if there's anyone in heaven and earth who hates it, it's Jesus. The devil is the one who's trying to tell us otherwise. He's promoting a lie, trying to get us to believe God is the One who's inflicting these diseases on people because he knows that if the victims believe that, it will drive them further from God than ever. And that's his aim.

It's time you and I as believers put a stop to that lie. Some time ago, the Lord spoke to my heart and told me so. He said, Reach out to those who are suffering. Let them know I didn't do this to them. Let them know I'm their Deliverer!

That word was not just for me, it was for the whole Body of Christ. We need to tell people who've been afflicted with AIDS or any such disease that Jesus is Lord over it. We need to tell them that God loves them dearly, and He has the desire and the power to heal them.

God is not responsible for the suffering we're seeing around us. That's just a nasty lie the devil is passing around. And if you and I do our job right, very soon another word is going to start spreading through the streets. The news is going to get out that Jesus Christ is not their captor, He's the One who can set them free!

Which Way Will You Choose? - Joyce Meyer

January 12, 2017

Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it. But the gate is narrow (contracted by pressure) and the way is straitened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it.
—Matthew 7:13-14

Here in this passage, Jesus speaks of two different ways: the broad way that leads to destruction and the narrow way that leads to life. As I was meditating on this passage, the Lord spoke to my heart and said, Joyce, on the broad way there is room for all kinds of fleshly things like bitterness and unforgiveness and resentment and vindictiveness. But on the narrow way, there is only room for the Spirit.

In the flesh it is easy to take the broad path, but the end result is destruction. Emotions move us to take the easy way, to do what feels good for the moment. Wisdom moves us to take the hard way that leads to life. The question is: Which will we choose?

No matter what has happened to you in your lifetime, even if you have been abandoned by your spouse or abused by your parents or hurt by your children or others, if you'll stay on that narrow path and leave all your excess baggage behind, sooner or later you will find the peace, joy, and fulfillment you seek.

Jesus is the Way, and He has shown us the way in which we are to walk. The Lord has sent upon us His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in the way we are to go, the narrow way that leads to life and not the broad way that leads to destruction. We must keep walking in the ways of the Lord: And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. (Galatians 6:9)

HIDDEN SOURCE OF BLESSING - Pastor E.A Adeboye

Memorise: Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha. Psalm 40:15Read:

Psalm 40:14-17 (KJV)

14 Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.

15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.

16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.

17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

Bible in one year: Matthew 24-25, Isaiah 9:13-10:4
MESSAGE:
When you are connected to the All-Sufficient God, you will not lack any good thing. Why? Bible scholars call Him Jehovah El Shaddai. In other words, He is the “Breasted One”. A baby sucks from the mother’s breasts. Every time the child calls for milk, it is always there. All of your needs can be fully satisfied in Christ. Sometime ago at our church in Ebute Metta (Lagos), I taught that when the Almighty God made this declaration.

“If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”
John 14:14

What He is actually saying in the original text, according to Bible scholars, is that if you ask anything from Him that He does not have, He will create it for you. How marvellous! I once told somebody of this and he in turn shared it with his friend. His friend said to him, “If your God is so powerful, why not ask Him to create for you a cow with four heads.” But the man replied, “I don’t need a cow with four heads. Open Heavens Thursday 12 January 2017:- Hidden source of blessing. I would rather ask God to give me four cows. If you need the heads, you can have them while I keep the rest. “This season, the All-Sufficient One will be more than sufficient for you! He will meet all of your needs and satisfy you right on time!

From the story of the widow in 1st Kings 17:8-16, besides the lesson of help coming just in time, and that of help being delivered every day, another lesson the Holy Spirit will have us pay close attention to is the lesson of the source of help being hidden from outsiders. This is absolutely wonderful! When some evil-minded individuals know that you are doing well and blossoming, they will try all they can to discover the secret of your progress so that they can destroy it. Their purpose may be to erase any leverage or advantage you may have over them. Some people have become victims of such evil minds. But when God hides the source of your blessing, your enemies will try in vain to stop you. This was the experience of the widow. Because there was famine in the land, everyone, including this woman, was starving and losing weight. Open Heavens Devotional 2017.
Then God intervened by sending His servant to her and he hid in her house. Suddenly, people saw that she was shining and gaining weight. Her son was looking radian and everything dramatically improved for them, but nobody could tell how. That will be your portion this season! The Lord will turn your situation around for good and hide the source of your change away from every enemy.

Prayer Point
Father, shut the eyes of everyone that would contend with my blessing, so that they will not see it, in Jesus’ Name.

BELIEVING IS RECEIVING - Joseph Prince

January 12, 2017

Mark 5:28–29

For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.

You have heard people of the world say, “I will believe it only when I see it.” Generally, that is the way the world thinks. But God’s ways are not like the ways of the world. The world says, “If I can’t feel it or see it, I cannot believe the miracle is here.” God says, “If you believe it before you feel it or see it, you will see your miracle.”

Believing first before seeing the evidence of what we are believing for is called faith. Faith is like a spark and Jesus is the dynamite powder.

In the story of the healing of the woman with the issue of blood, there were many people who touched Jesus (Mark 5:31), but nothing happened to them. They didn’t touch Him in faith. But when the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years came to Him and touched Him in faith, He felt power leave His body (Mark 5:30), and it sparked off an explosion of healing in the woman’s body!

Hearing about how good, kind and loving Jesus was fired her faith to believe that He could and would heal her. So convinced was she (even when the condition in her body was still evident) that she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” Did she experience her healing first before she believed? No, she believed first in Jesus’ goodness and power, acted in faith and only then felt the healing in her body.

In the same way, God wants you to believe in His goodness and love toward you. He wants you to know how willing He is to act on your behalf to bless you, and how, with Christ, He will freely give you every good thing. (Romans 8:32)

He wants you to declare by faith that all is and shall be well with you, and to expect to see just that. And then, no matter how long you have had the problem, no matter how bad the experts say it is, an explosion of healing and restoration will take place, and you will receive what you are believing for!

Thought For The Day

Believe in God’s goodness and love toward you, and you will receive what you are believing for.

BLESSING - Dag Heward-Mills

READ: Genesis 26:1-14
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: ...and be gracious unto thee...

Numbers 6:24-26

Isaac experienced unbeatable prosperity. Genesis chapter 26 describes the attempt of eternal circumstances to destroy God's blessings on his life. Firstly , there was a famine in the land. A famine of those days is equivalent to a bad economy of today. The economic environment was adverse to his prosperity. He needed unbeatable prosperity that comes from God.

People are affected by the adverse conditions round about them. Most of us who live in Africa can feel the frustration of unstable governments, wars and endemic poverty. The climate is sometimes hostile to the blossoming of anything successful and prosperous.

Whereas some communities publish the hundred richest people in the nation, others harass and intimidate the hundred richest people. In such an environment, you need unbeatable prosperity; prosperity that is not destroyed by the circumstances: a blessing that cannot be erased by man, woman or beast.

Trust God for His great blessing, in spite of bad economic conditions. Be like Isaac: As you continue to sow seeds of tithes and offerings into God's house, believe God for a hundredfold harvest!

God Never Makes Mistakes - Billy Graham

January 12, 2017

Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
—2 Corinthians 12:9

God is especially close to us when we are lying on a sickbed. God will make the bed soft and will freshen it with His presence and with His tender care. He makes the bed comfortable and wipes away our tears. He ministers to us with special tenderness at such a time and reveals His great love for us. Tell me why the gardener trims and prunes his rosebushes, sometimes cutting away productive branches, and I will tell you why God’s people are afflicted. God’s hand never slips. He never makes a mistake. His every move is for our own good and for our ultimate good. Oftentimes He must deform us and mutilate our own image. Deformity sometimes precedes conformity.

Prayer for the day

When times of tribulation come, help me, dear Lord, to glory in them for Your sake.

Bible in one year: Matthew 20:21, Isaiah 8, Hymn: Sing hymn 9
MESSAGE:
While seeking God’s face towards a particular year’s Convention of our church, the Lord asked me to go back to the basics. It was obvious we had forgotten some things, and God wanted to remind us of them. Indeed God’s ways are different from our ways; hence the need for us to always humble ourselves before Him. The big things, deep secrets and outstanding thoughts we expect to get from God may not come through the avenues that we think they will follow. There are certain lessons God may want to teach us and He would send us to the ants (Proverbs 6:6)! This shows that He can send you to what you think you cannot get anything from. He can teach you great lessons using a familiar terrain. He can use vessels you consider too junior in the ecclesiastical hierarchy to teach you things that will blow your mind. Open Heavens 10 January 2017:- Proud? This is why you have to remain humble and meek because God can only teach those who are meek.

One thing that can come between you and the divine knowledge that will transform your life is pride. 1st Peter 5:5 says God resists the proud. The word “resist” in this verse is used in the present continuous tense. To “resist” is to forcefully push back against something. It implies that if you are proud, all your attempts to move closer to God shall be rebuffed by Him. This is why the proud cannot stay on the same platform with God. Are you proud? Today, many people are proud of their achievements: how many members they have in their local church parish, the size of their tithe, how many churches they have planted, how many souls they have won etc. One thing such people forgets is that we can do nothing without Him. John 15:5 says:

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Some others boast over their wealth, or their privileged office or position, even their beauty and appearance. Some others have become distant from God because of the multiple academic qualifications they have acquired in various disciplines over the years; they forget that knowledge should set you free, and not cut you off from God. Open heavens devotional. Whenever what you know attracts pride into your life, the knowledge has become counter-productive, capable of pushing you into serious trouble. Examine yourself today and ask God to destroy any trace of pride in you.

Key Point

If you allow a benefit that should draw you closer to God to separate you from Him, you are on the path to doom.
