The One Resolution We Can All Keep - Bishop T.D Jakes

December 16, 2016

We are all capable of empathy.

Every year on December 31st we countdown with friends and family until we hit zero.

At zero, we cheer, we kiss, we hug and we know that he have a fresh new year ahead of us full of potential and promise.

Many of us make resolutions about how we will change or improve in the upcoming year but statistically only 8% of individuals will follow through with their intentions and then have a great sense of guilt and regret which will make the failure’s effects even worse.

However, there is one promise that we can all actively strive to keep throughout the year because it is in our power to work for it daily.

The one resolution we can keep is to promote empathy towards others and ourselves.

It is easy to judge people quickly and dismiss them without knowing what they are dealing with, but through empathy we are able connect with others and extend understanding and support.

Here are 3 things you can do to keep your resolution be empathetic:
1. Volunteer with the less fortunate.

Chances are you are aware that there are many groups of people who don’t benefit from the same advantages that you do, but you are unlikely to spend much time in their presence.

Without getting to know their struggle, you are less likely to feel true empathy for them. The homeless, the mentally and physically disabled, the terminally ill, and the poor are all groups that can benefit from your assistance and in turn you will be practicing empathy in ways that will change lives.
2. Expand your circle.

Much like the previous example, you can’t empathize with someone if you don’t know where they have come from. This is where meeting people of different backgrounds and personal beliefs will help to grow your capacity for empathy, even for those you may have had negative opinions of previously.

Put yourself in the position to expand your circle by meeting people you wouldn’t usually befriend. Join a book club or bible study, become a leader in a children’s organization, enroll in an art, music, or dance class.
These new environments will introduce you to new point of views that will grow not only your world view but your empathy for your fellow man, no matter how different from you they might be.
3. Hold yourself and others accountable.

When there is injustice or ugliness in the world, do you turn a blind eye to it or do you face it and try to bring kindness to the situation? It isn’t unusual for people to ignore the bad that happens in the world because they think they can do nothing to change it.

In actuality, the best way individuals can change a bad situation is by calling it out and demanding justice. In holding people accountable, you are telling them that their behavior is not acceptable in a world that has resolved to choose empathy.

Also, this accountability must have yourself included in it in order to be effective. If you can’t expect empathy from yourself, how can you expect anyone else to be understanding. Calling yourself out when you slip and forget to treat your neighbor or friend with kindness will help you to incorporate empathy in your everyday life.

Resolutions can be hard to keep but every person has it in themselves to show empathy to the world around them if they choose to make it their priority.

Empathy is a resolution that will benefit everyone when it’s kept.

The Peace That Comes with Being Content - Joyce Meyer

December 16, 2016

But if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied).
—1 Timothy 6:8

Nobody has a perfect life, and it is entirely possible that if you want someone else’s life, they are busy wanting someone else’s too; perhaps they even want your life.

Unknown people want to be movie stars, but movie stars want privacy. The regular employee wants to be the boss, but the boss wishes he did not have so much responsibility. A single woman wants to be married, but quite often, a married woman wishes she were single.

Contentment with life is not a feeling—it is a decision. Contentment does not mean that we never want to see change or improvement, but it does mean that we will do the best we can with what we have. It means that we are thankful for what God has given us and we are determined to enjoy the gift of life.

Prayer of Thanks: When I am tempted to be jealous of someone else’s life, Father, I pray that You will help me to be content with who I am and what You have given me. I thank You that I have a purpose and destiny for my life. Today, I choose to be grateful and content.

PRACTICING GOD’S PRESENCE - Joseph Prince

December 16, 2016

Matthew 1:23“…and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

God has promised you His constant presence (Hebrews 13:5), but are you conscious of His presence every day? When you are conscious of His presence every day, you will experience a peace that gives you rest, joy inexpressible in your spirit and a power that nothing in this world can offer. In fact, you will begin to be peaceful and powerful like Jesus. You will speak and behave like Him. This is because you cannot be in God’s presence without His beauty, love, peace, power and glory rubbing off on you.

But how do you practice being conscious of God’s presence?

Start by seeing God with you in whatever you do and wherever you are. For example, at your board meeting, while deliberating on issues, see the Lord there in the boardroom with you, guiding you in your thinking. And you can be sure that His presence will bring clarity of thought and wisdom to you. You will find yourself flowing with great and sound ideas.

If you are going for an interview, see the Lord there in the interview room with you, putting answers in your mouth. Your nervousness will melt away as you see His favor on you bringing on smiles and approving nods from the interviewers.

Perhaps you are going for surgery. Well, see the Lord in the operating theatre with you, guiding the hands of the surgeons. Your worries will dissipate because nothing can go wrong in the Lord’s presence.

If you are in the middle of an argument, see the Lord standing within earshot. Your words will change and your body language will become more reconciliatory as you see Him right there with you extending His grace to you. There will be a restraint which is not borne of willpower, but which comes supernaturally when you know that the One who loves you and watches over you is with you.

Beloved, when you become conscious of God’s presence in your life, worries and fears will have no foothold in your mind. You will see Him maximizing your joy and fun, and prospering you in what you say and do!

Thought For The Day

You practice God’s presence when you see Him with you in whatever you do and wherever you are.

DIVINE PURPOSE - Bishop T.D Jakes

Memorise: And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? 1st Samuel 17:29

Read: 1st Samuel 17:26-29 (KJV)

26 And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.

28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

Bible in one year: Leviticus 5:14-7:38, Psalms 119:145-160

MESSAGE
Sometimes, you find yourself in a situation where you cannot explain your actions. All you know at that point is that you are strongly motivated by the Spirit of God to act in certain ways that are not really in your personal interest or for your benefit. Such steps are usually seen by others as unreasonable, irrational, and sometimes foolish. In the process of obeying God’s instruction, you ask yourself repeatedly; “What is going on?” I have learnt from my own personal experience that this period is like a roller-coaster ride with the Holy Spirit. On one hand, you are excited, while on the other hand, there is fear and uncertainty. Sometimes, a blend of opposition, obstacle, and criticism, comes in to make the situation more complex. Such was the situation when at the very early stage of my Christian walk, my father in the Lord, the then General Superintendent of RCCG, asked all of us at the Headquarters to close our bank accounts and bring all the money to the Church on a certain date. Open Heavens Friday 16 December 2016:- Divine purpose
Thank God I and my wife heeded the instruction. This puts me in the position to tell you today that such an unusual call provides an unusual opportunity to prove your loyalty to God, thereby setting you up as a major factor in the fulfilment of divine purpose. I pray that you will correctly discern the unusual opportunities that always precede the fulfilment of divine purpose in Jesus’ name.

King Joash had such an opportunity but could not make the best of it. Open heavens today. When Elisha was about to die, since there was nobody worthy of his double portion anointing, he felt led to give king Joash an unusual opportunity to defeat all his enemies in all future battles through a prophetic action. With Elisha’s hand on the king’s hand, every arrow shot represented a victory for Israel. If only he had maximized that opportunity, he would never have been defeated: his victory would have been complete. I can imagine that if the king had been aware beforehand, he would have shot all the arrows in order to maximize the opportunity. But unfortunately, he did not discern the times, and the whole nation of Israel suffered loss. May you not miss your unusual opportunities this year in Jesus’ name. God will open the eyes of your spiritual understanding to identify the signs of divine purpose in Jesus’ name.
Prayer point
Father, please key me into Your divine calendar and help me fulfil Your purpose in my life in Jesus’ name.

ONLY ONCE - Dag Heward-Mills

READ: 1 Peter 1:13-21
Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.
1 Peter 1:17, NIV

Remember that we cannot come back. Remember that we cannot “do earth” again. This is it. It’s once and for all and you must get it right the first time. Unfortunately , most people understand life when it is all over. But for wisdom to be useful, it must be applied when you are young. Wisdom is intended to help you to live a better life. Wisdom will not help you much at the end of your life. The purpose of wisdom is not to make you look back and regret your past life. The purpose of wisdom is to make you have a better life in the future. That is why wisdom must be applied in your youth.

It is important for you to learn about time as it relates to your period on earth.

“And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear” (1 Peter 1:17).

You are welcome to this earth! For your information, this is a world where time is both relevant and important. One of the things you will discover is the fact that there are appointed times for many things. There was a time for you to be born, and that is when you were born. There is a time for you to die, and that is when you will die.

Why the Righteous Suffer - Billy Graham

December 16, 2016

God will tenderly comfort you when you undergo these same sufferings . . .
—2 Corinthians 1:7 (TLB)

This question, “Why must the righteous suffer?” is as old as time. There is only one place that we can find an answer, and that is in the Bible. You do not need to study the Scriptures long to learn why sinners meet reverses and anguish. They are apart from God. Their sorrow is the result of their sins. But-why do Christians suffer?

Scripture teaches that many Christians suffer so that they may fellowship with others who are in affliction. Only those who have known sorrow and suffering can have fellowship with those in affliction. The Word of God also teaches that Christians suffer in order that they might glorify God in their lives. The Bible further teaches that Christians suffer in order that God might teach them lessons in prayer. Also, Christians suffer in order that God might bring them to repentance.

Prayer for the day

How tender is Your comfort, Lord. How loving Your chastening.

RUN HIM OUT OF TOWN - KENNETH COPELAND

December 16, 2016

Stand therefore…having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.
Ephesians 6:14-15, The Amplified Bible

Preparation. When it comes to fighting spiritual battles, that's a word you'd do well to remember. Most believers don't pay much attention to it. They don't prepare themselves in advance. They fiddle around until the devil makes his move, then they jump up and try to fight him with the Word... and they usually lose.

I used to do the same thing until the Lord taught me differently. I used to wait until my meetings began to pray for their success. As Satan would come against them from one direction, I'd fight him there. Then he'd move around and attack them in another area, and I'd fight him there.

One day the Lord showed me that by waiting until the last minute to take my stand, I was giving Satan time to build up his forces against me. And consequently, I was losing many of my battles. Then the Lord said something to me I'll never forget. He said, If they had kicked Al Capone out of Chicago when he was just a small-time operator, he wouldn't have been so hard to handle; but they waited until he became a first-class criminal with his forces built up around him. Then it took an army to bring him down.

When I heard that, I made up my mind never to be caught unprepared again. I started praying about those meetings weeks in advance, getting the stage set spiritually before they ever began. Instead of letting Satan get his forces entrenched, I started throwing him out before he got a single foothold. When I did, I saw more victories than I ever had before.

Don't let the devil catch you off guard. Be prepared! Start praying and speaking the Word of faith now over your family, your business, your church. Get your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Then if Satan causes trouble, you'll be well-equipped to run him out of town.
